The Primary role of the Directorate is to represent the state in criminal matters, ensuring fair, impartial, and evidence-based prosecution in courts to secure justice for victims.
The Government of Maharashtra has taken decision for modernization of Directorate of Prosecution. In the first phase, 43 desktops, 43 Legal Software, and 705 Laptops & Dongles were provided to the prosecutors. In the second phase, 200 Laptops & Dongles and 34 Software have been provided to prosecutors. In the third phase, 70 Laptops & Dongles have been provided and 32 Laptop & Dongles along with Legal Software are going to be provided shortly.
The vision focuses on enhancing capabilities of prosecutors, by providing them laptops and e-library, arranging top-tier training programs, which includes workshops, seminars and online lectures on relevant subjects. So as to equip them to handle the cases.
At present, laptops have been provided to every prosecutor in the State and e-library is being provided to them.
A Monitoring Cell has been established to oversee and guide prosecutors during criminal trials, minimizing lapses and enhancing trial outcomes. The Directorate of Prosecution meticulously reviews appeal proposals in deserving cases to reduce errors and increase conviction rates in serious crimes.
The key focus is on adopting a sensitive and respectful approach towards the victims and witnesses, fostering public confidence by maintaining transparency, upholding ethical standards, and ensuring prosecutors act as ministers of justice.

To represent the State in Criminal matters, is the primary duty of Prosecutor. He is an officer of the Court and is required and expected to assist the Court in finding the truth. In discharge of his duty the Prosecutor is expected to act fairly, impartially and must be conscious of the rights of accused. The Prosecutors are the ministers of Justice, who plays a pivotal role in the administration of Criminal Justice.
‘न्याय हेचि ध्येय’ is the motto of Directorate of Prosecution. We stand to ensure fair, impartial and effective prosecution of Criminal Cases, in accordance with the law and principles of Justice. A strong credible prosecution system is essential for upholding public confidence in the law, deterring crime, maintaining peace and order in society.
The Directorate of Prosecution is continually working to improve our institutional capacity, embrace innovation and ensure timely and effective prosecution of cases. The Government of Maharashtra has taken decision for modernization of Directorate and provided Laptops, Dongles and Legal Database Softwares to the Prosecutors in the State of Maharashtra.
The Directorate of Prosecution is focusing primly on enhancing the legal qualities of Prosecutors by organizing legal Workshops and Webinars for them.
